Cook hands-free. Just say "next step."
Your hands are covered in flour. The timer's about to go off. You need the next instruction but your phone auto-locked 30 seconds ago. Shelfie's cooking mode fixes all of this: screen stays on, text is huge, and you control everything by voice. "Next step." "Set timer 5 minutes." "Repeat that." No poking your phone with chicken fingers.
Whisk eggs and cheese together until smooth and creamy.
Common questions
What voice commands does Shelfie understand while cooking?
The basics: "next step," "previous step," "repeat," "set timer [duration]," "what's the current step?" and "read ingredients." You don't need exact phrasing — "go back" works the same as "previous step." It's designed for a noisy kitchen, not a quiet office.
Does the screen stay on during cooking mode?
Yes. Cooking mode prevents screen lock entirely and switches to extra-large text with high contrast. Readable from across the kitchen, even with steam on your glasses. Battery usage is minimal since it's just displaying text.
Can I set multiple timers at once?
Yes. "Set timer 12 minutes for pasta" and "set timer 5 minutes for sauce" run simultaneously. Each timer has a label so you know which one's going off. Shelfie announces when each timer finishes, even if you're on a different step.
Does it work in noisy kitchens?
The voice recognition is tuned for kitchen environments — exhaust fans, sizzling pans, background music. It's not perfect in extreme noise, but handles typical cooking sounds. You can also tap the screen as a fallback if a command doesn't register.
Is voice cooking available on the free plan?
Voice-guided cooking is a Shelfie Core feature ($7.99/mo or $69.99/yr). The free plan shows recipe steps on-screen with manual navigation. Shelfie Core adds voice control, always-on display, and hands-free timers.
